Increasing the health security, not rare cases about undue consultations Fse’, el Privacy Supervisor.

The pandemic emergency shows how the digital, with the e-prescripcion and the telemedicine, allow the extension of the care also with social distancing.
However, a technology that is not well ruled can increase the number of clinical risks, in this area, the informatic risk, where for example, the data on which the diagnosis is based is altered,” says the Privacy Supervisor Antonello Soro said during the hearing by videoconference to the Parliamentary Simplification Commission.

Soro underlines that also “the exflitration of the undue access to health data can breach, in a irreversible way, the not tangibility right of one’s private life which is the oldest privacy road” in facts “on an individual level the knowledge of such sensitive data as genetics or health, can base discrimination (think work or insurance relationship) or otherwise very relevant prejudices for the person concerned”.

High risks also from the collective point of view, because, says the personal data protection Supervisor, “the informatic attacks towards health structures come from cyber attack in Italy, and they can have devastating effect on all the citizen, like the health service provision’s stop, or in patient data anomalies, clinical errors on large scale”.

“The vulnerability of health systems, therefore, risks causing even very serious disruption, generating diagnostic or therapeutic errors or paralyzing the activity of care”, and for Soro “it is a problem that affects our country in a particular way”.

And this is as recent research shows that “the healthcare sector as one of those exposed to the greatest risks in terms of cybersecurity because it lacks an organic security and protection plan, which in this field would be essential, especially in the face of the increasing use of cloud computing and artificial intelligence”.
