VISHING THE NEW PHISHING FRONTIER, PHONE SCAMS TO ENTREPRENEUR.

A new scams alarm against entrepreneurs comes from the Romagna Chamber of Commerce.

The scams, Phishing and vishing have the aim to steal access codes to banks, credit cards, for stealing the unlucky.

Reports, which came from local companies, communicate suspicious phone calls, with requests of back coordinates and reserved information both private and business. 

This is not a new type of scam, but the growth of the smart-working brings employees to the self islations in order to reduce the Covid-19 impact, it has increased contacts by phone or internet and causing an increase of this new type of scam. 

Phishing means sending misleading messages by emails, meanwhile vishing uses the telephone call, which is frequently done on subjects of which they already know basic information with the aim of understanding additional ones. 

Scam, voice-phishing known as vishing is a term for internet scams via voice IP and telephone.

The calls for which a report has been made follow the standard model of a simple “Good morning, I’m calling from the Chamber of Commerce” phone call, continuing with requests for data for refunds not due to the Chamber of Commerce, or requests may be made for balance sheets, information on customers and suppliers or employee data.

The Chamber of Commerce of Romagna warns that if it has to reimburse rights or wrongly paid amounts, it will only ask for the data necessary for the accreditation operation and only of the member and the communication will be made via pec.

In the pec that is forwarded by the Chamber of Commerce, the communications contain all the contact information of the Chamber office that is making the request, as far as data concerning suppliers and balance sheets are concerned, the Chamber of Commerce already has this information.

It is possible to defend oneself against these scams, the actions to be taken to prevent these techniques start from never providing personal information and taking time to make the appropriate checks, “urgency and professional friendliness” in these phone calls are the key factor, thus leading the person to trust his interlocutor.

In order to prevent these scams, it is necessary as well as lawful to carry out checks by consulting official sources and verifying the channels to be able to identify the caller.
