SWEDISH SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: The Data Inspectorate starts the exam of European investigations system

The Authority starts the supervision by the Swedish System of Information Schengen, SIS II, an informatic system for the exchange of information, among other things, on requested person among the UE states.

The Data Inspector has begun an audit of the IT system of Schengen – SIS II. It is about an informatic system that works as a help for the investigation and like an help for the recognition of member States in the European Union.

In the SIS II, each Member State may enter data on persons and certain desired or desired objects with a request to take special action if the person or object is found.

It is the Swedish part of SIS II that will be examined, among other things, by means of on-site inspections of police authorities. All EU countries must carry out this type of review of their national SIS II every four years.

SIS II is a comprehensive information system containing a large amount of information on many persons. That is why it is important with this kind of recurring check.

SIS II contains information on persons not allowed to enter or stay in the Schengen area, persons wanted for a criminal offence and missing persons. Some objects may also be recorded in the system, such as vehicles, firearms, ships and identity documents that have been lost, stolen or used in criminal activities.
