The Danish Data Protection Agency is once again participating in the European Data Protection Board’s (EDPB) annual coordinated survey. This year, the focus is on data controllers’ compliance with the rules on the right of access.
During 2024, supervisory authorities in the EU/EEA will conduct a coordinated investigation focusing on data controllers’ compliance with data subjects’ right of access.
The EDPB has chosen to focus on the right of access as it is one of the most utilised rights by data subjects. In addition, the right of access is often a prerequisite for data subjects to be able to exercise the other rights in the GDPR, such as the right to rectification and erasure. The right of access thus ensures transparency about what personal data is being processed about the data subject and provides the opportunity to check that the personal data is correct and that the processing is otherwise lawful.
The supervisory authorities each organise and carry out the national investigations that they consider most appropriate. The EDPB will publish a news item on its website in the near future with a description of how it will organise its investigation.
