Nowadays, the protection of personal data has become a very important issue for both organizations and each of us. More and more companies and institutions process personal data, which creates the need not only to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Data Regulation , but also to identify and manage potential risks that could affect the rights and freedoms of individuals.
To help organizations through this process, we have developed guidelines for Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) . These guidelines offer a practical and clear approach to identifying and managing risks, helping to understand when and how to conduct a DPIA and what measures to implement to mitigate potential threats.
DPIA is an essential tool that allows organizations to assess the potential impact of data processing in a timely manner and choose the most appropriate security solutions. While the General Data Protection Regulation requires DPIA to be carried out in some cases, it is also useful as a general risk management tool that helps ensure safer and more transparent data processing. The guidelines explain the DPIA process step by step – from assessing the necessity and determining the lawfulness of data processing, to practical recommendations on how to effectively integrate it into the organization’s operations.
The guidelines contain the following sections:
- Assessment of the lawfulness of data processing (determines whether the planned data processing is legally justified) ;
- Stage before DPIA( evaluates the need to perform DPIA, identifying possible risks );
- The process of conducting an DPIA(including the choice of methodology and risk management steps) ;
- Practical recommendations (provide specific solutions for effective implementation and integration of NIDA into the organization’s operations) .
Please note: The DPIA methodology, although recommended, is not legally binding. Organizations have the right to choose alternative approaches as long as they ensure the achievement of the results set out in the Data Regulation. |
