FRENCH SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: The California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) and the CNIL sign a declaration of cooperation

The CPPA and the CNIL signed a declaration of cooperation on June 25, 2024, in Paris. The two authorities are combining their efforts to strengthen the protection of the personal data of French and Californian citizens.

Ashkan Soltani, executive director of the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA – California, United States) and Marie-Laure Denis, president of the National Commission on Informatics and Liberties (CNIL – France), signed, on June 25, 2024, a declaration of cooperation which provides in particular:

  • conducting joint research related to new technologies and data protection issues;
  • sharing good practices and experiences, including as part of their investigations;
  • the organization of workshops.

This partnership will be an opportunity to forge institutional and human links between the CPPA and the CNIL through joint projects, thus making it possible to strengthen their understanding of new technologies and to jointly meet the challenges posed by the protection of personal data in a context increase in digital uses in all areas of daily life for Californian and French citizens.

“We are pleased to collaborate with the CNIL and pave the way for information sharing in areas of mutual interest. We look forward to a productive exchange in the years to come, and we thank the CNIL. » Ashkan Soltani, Executive Director of CPPA

“This agreement opens a new chapter in cooperation for our two institutions. This is a great opportunity for the CPPA and the CNIL to work on joint research projects, to exchange our best practices and share our experiences. The circulation of data on a global scale requires such an approach to go beyond the national and European framework. » Marie-Laure Denis, president of the CNIL
