All businesses can be exposed to digital attacks, but did you know that your organisation is particularly vulnerable during holidays such as Easter? In a separate guide, we describe some common types of incidents and look at how to safeguard your privacy if you have been exposed to such attacks.
“Holidays, vacations and periods where temporary staff and potentially inexperienced personnel are more common are typical periods when organisations are particularly vulnerable to digital attacks. It is therefore particularly important to be aware of the type of staffing and routines in place during such periods,” says Eirik Gulbrandsen, senior engineer in the section for Technology, Security and Supervision at the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
The motivation and methods behind the attacks vary. So does the severity of the consequences. In this guide, we go through the different types of digital attacks an organisation can be exposed to, and refer to various resources where organisations can get more information about the different types of incidents.
The guide also goes through the assessments that organisations should make regarding privacy if they have been exposed to a digital attack and there is suspicion of a breach of personal data security (non-compliance).
Service denial attacks and CEO fraud, for example, will typically have a lower potential for serious data breaches, while successful phishing, email and extortion attacks have a higher risk of serious breaches.
