The Italian Data Protection Authority has created an emergency channel for all the revenge porn victims.

Against the revenge porn, it is one of the most hateful violence forms on women and, generally speaking, against the non-consensual pornography, the Italian Data Protection Authority has decided to create an emergency channel on its website. People who suffer from the diffusion of their private photos and videos, without their consent on Facebook or Instagram, can notify these risks and obtain the images block.

The reporting channel is those one which has been activated last year in Italy, like a pilot project, by Facebook and which was accessible till now in our Country only by a non-profit association.

Since the 8 of March, adults who fear that their own private photos or videos are shared, could contact the Italian Data Protection Authority, by consulting the specific webpage, to report its existence safely and confidentially to Facebook and block it.

On the page prepared by the Italian Data Protection Authority, potential victims of non-consensual pornography will find a form to be filled in to provide the Authority with the information necessary to assess the case and to indicate to the interested party the link to directly upload the images on the program.

Once uploaded, the images will be encrypted by Facebook through a code “hash”, so as to become unrecognizable before being destroyed and, through a technology of comparison, blocked by possible attempts to publish them on the two platform.
